Pastoral
Care
Eastside Catholic Hospital Ministry
covers all calls for Sacramental attention during evening and
weekend hours. You may access the Chaplain's office by calling
206-361-4015.
For anointing of the sick before
hospital stays or of a non-emergent nature, you may call the parish
at (425) 747-6770 to arrange for a home visit or appointment for the
anointing.
Communion to the Sick and
Homebound
St. Madeleine's is fortunate to have a
team of volunteers who will bring communion to the sick or
homebound. To arrange this service, please call Eileen Short at (425)
747-6770 ext. 101
Parish Prayer List
To ask for prayers for sick or
deceased loved ones, please call the parish office to have the named
added to the parish prayer list. Mass cards are also available upon
request. Please call ext. 100
Sacrament of the Sick
The Sacrament of the Sick is
administered after the 9:00AM weekday Mass on the first Friday of
every month. At least twice a year the sacrament is administered
after the Sunday Masses. Announcement of these dates are given from
the pulpit and in the Sunday Bulletin in advance of the chosen date.
Funerals
If a parish family wishes to have a
funeral at St. Madeleine’s, please call Loretta Wright as soon as
practically possible and before the time and date are set with the
Funeral Director. The arrangements can then be made with the best
possible availability of clergy, music and reception support. Both
funerals and memorial services are available and the parish is happy
to host a reception following the Mass.
RCIA
Are you interested in the Catholic
faith? Please call Robin Baxter at ext. 112 or email
robin@stmasophie.org for details about the Christian Initiation
procedure at St. Madeleine’s. We most often have a group of people
forming in September and receiving the Sacraments of Initiation
around Easter of the following year. There are additional
opportunities to become connected with the Church throughout the
year. I would welcome an opportunity to visit with you and discuss
your hopes for your faith journey.
Spiritual Support
If you think you would like
spiritual support in your life there are two opportunities offered
for individuals. The first is Stephen Ministry, which is a peer
group support by trained Ministers who have devoted themselves to
this wonderful work. This is a highly confidential ministry and
although the ministers attend support groups their care receiver’s
name or details of that persons needs are never mention. Stephen
Ministry is highly successful and has been functioning very well in
our parish for more than seven years. The other opportunity would be
to obtain a list of Spiritual Directors in the area who will accept
new spiritual clients at a reasonable cost.
Weddings
If you are planning a wedding
please contact the church at least six months in advance of the date
you have in mind. It is most efficient to contact the church BEFORE
making reception commitments. In this way a couple may be made aware
of the dates and times available for weddings, whether a Mass or
simply the wedding ceremony itself.
The wedding preparation itself
consists of the taking of the FOCCUS Assessment, a feedback
session after the FOCCUS questions have been processed and the choosing of a
pre-wedding course of instruction. The option available for
instruction is a weekend retreat called Engaged Encounter.
We can facilitate all of this for
couples living in the parish and being married at another Catholic
Church as well as those wishing to be married at St. Madeleine’s.
Please keep in mind that it is not possible for a priest or deacon
of this archdiocese to preside at a wedding outdoors or at a location
other than a Catholic Church.
Annulments
The Church makes it possible for a
formerly married person to seek a decree of Nullity from the
Tribunal and thereby be free to enter into a marriage in the Church.
If you were married and now wish to remarry in the Church, please
call Deacon Bill Taube at (425) 747-6770 ext. 103 or Loretta Wright
at ext. 104 to obtain more information about
your specific case.
In general, the time requirement
for a Formal case is 12 to 10 months. Necessary paperwork plus
a new copy of your certificate of Baptism, a copy of your civil
divorce decree and a copy of the marriage certificate will be
required.
Both Deacon Bill and Loretta
are available as Advocates to assist you with the preparation of the
case.
The process can be both painful and
life giving. Many people who have completed the process report a
wonderful sense of having put a painful part of their lives to rest.
Do not hesitate to call with any questions you might have about your
situation.
