The Library at St. Madeleine Sophie is a resource designed to meet the needs of Catholic Christians for both information and inspiration. We have over 1,800 books, 400 videos, and 300 audiotapes for adults, plus over 900 titles for children. We are also adding music CDs to our collection.

You will find hundreds of great titles organized by category to be browser-friendly, just like your favorite bookstore. However, our categories are unique, reflecting the special spiritual focus of our collection.

What you won't find here are books that don't enhance peoples ability to live their faith: mainstream romances and horror novels, books on astrology, etc. We have also chosen not to include books that advocate practices that go against our faith. However, we haven't excluded books on spirituality or theology with diverse points of view.

Looking for a specific title? Examine the categories and think where your book would likely fall. Then check the two or three most likely shelves. All categories except Biography, Saints, and Popes are alphabetized by author. Another great resource is the Library Index, a complete listing by Subject, Author, and Type of Media (book, video, or audiotape) of materials in our library. This index is updated periodically, and is available in a binder in the library.

How to borrow books:

Fill out the card in the front of the book. Be sure to provide your name and phone number. Make sure you've filled out a Borrower Card for our library database. Put the card in the blue "Books Borrowed — Input" envelope, or give to the volunteer on duty. Return books within four weeks to the wooden Book Return in the Library. Videos are due in one week.

Holders of overdue material will receive a reminder letter to return their books. There are no overdue fines; however, if an item is lost or damaged, you will be asked to pay for its replacement.

Library Hours

After the 8:30 and 11:00 am Sunday Masses, most weeks. Library closures due to other use of the facilities will be noted in the parish bulletin.

For additional information or to volunteer to help staff the library, contact the Faith Formation Office at 747-6771.
